[Online] Submit Your Anti-Criminalization Communiversity Course Proposal (Interrupting Criminalization, due 4/25)

“Interrupting Criminalization and Women Building Up are partnering to offer an anti-criminalization “Communiversity” series in Brooklyn starting in August through November 2025. What is Communiversity? Communiversities are “non-hierarchical, inclusive, public centers of education for the enrichment and advancement of community life.” Communiversity is a space that encourages us to relate issues back to our personal lives, to ask questions, to have political conversations, to make friends and comrades, and to connect to local organizing.
We are accepting proposals for the anti-criminalization Communiversity for learners 14 and up. We are looking for workshop and course proposals that offer engaged and creative ways for people to think and to learn together. We invite educators, artists, and community members [18 years old & up] to propose courses and workshops focused on community organizing, criminalization, building economic power, health, writing, visual arts, restorative/transformative/healing justice, skill-building (for ex. resume writing, personal statements) and more. We are interested in proposals that are rooted in understanding interlocking oppressions and are steeped in an understanding of a People’s History.
We are especially open to proposals from people who are impacted by the punishment system and other marginalized experiences.
Facilitators are paid $60/hour for their workshop or course for up to 8 teaching hours + 2 hours of prep time. If your course is 4 hours you would be paid for 4 hours + 2 hours of prep time for a total of $360.”
