@softpowervote: “In New York, usually only Democratic and Republican parties hold Primary Elections. If you want to vote in Primary Elections in NYC (next on June 24), make sure you register with a party that holds primaries!
➡️New York state has “Closed primaries”! Voters registered with a given party can [only] participate in that party’s primary …
➡️ Voters registered with the Working Families Party, Independent, etc, are essentially disenfranchised from the Primary Election process in New York.
➡️ Candidates can run on MULTIPLE party lines in the GENERAL Election, but in the primary they only run on either Democrat or Republican lines.
🚨Every Primary Election folks in our DMs ask why they’re unable to vote in the Primary; this is why. This isn’t an endorsement of the Democratic Party, but an important detail of the democratic process in New York City and State. Don’t get left out!
