Celebrate Banned Words on Saturday! (Rise & Resist)

“The first Celebration of Words Action, on April 19th, succeeded in calling attention to this assault upon free speech. Many bystanders wanted to learn about the action and some asked to participate. On May 17, those of us holding up the word placards will continue to bear witness to the violence inherent in the banning of any words and to our determination, as protectors of free speech, to honor them. In this 2nd action, participants’ voices will become an important element. People will read the words they are carrying aloud. These banned words actions raise awareness; create spaces to mourn the loss of free speech, honor our values and reinforce the belief that our strength is in community.
